Erik J. Abell, PhD (PSY16096)
Erik J. Abell, Ph.D. is a licensed clinical psychologist specializing in cognitive behavioral therapy with extensive outpatient experience in collaborative, empathic, short-term, goal focused treatments. Dr. Abell is the founder and director of CTOC. He oversees clinical operations of CTOC, provides consultations with other mental health professionals and sees patients every weekday.
Dr. Abell received his bachelor's degree in psychology from the University of California, Irvine, his master's degree in psychology from Pepperdine University and his doctorate in clinical psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology, San Diego. |
He has worked in a variety of mental health settings, including non-profit counseling centers, the Trauma Research Institute (San Diego), Scripps Clinic, Division of Mental Health (La Jolla), and the Center for Cognitive Therapy (Newport Beach), before founding Cognitive Therapy Orange County in 2003. Dr. Abell is a Diplomate of the Academy of Cognitive Therapy since 2007.
Dr. Abell enjoys working with individuals from early to late adulthood as well as couples and families seeking assistance with a variety of problems. They include difficult adjustments to work, relationships, marriage, parenting, and family stresses. Additionally Dr. Abell is experienced treating mild to moderate depression, anxiety, panic, mild to moderate obsessive compulsive disorder and anger. Dr. Abell is consistently impressed with his patients' willingness to make significant changes in their lives and the lasting improvement they experience.
Dr. Abell is also the EAP Director/Team Psychologist for the Los Angeles Angels, providing his mental health expertise as a clinical psychologist to the organization's uniformed personnel and supporting staff since 2012.
